Self realization is achieved indulging in spirituality detailed in Bhagavad Gita. The journey of self realization is an inward journey towards the spirit, consciousness existing in our heart as soul atman. How could a self realization retreat help an individual reaching state of self realization!
Everything on path of spirituality, self realization is conducted within. We need mastering art of contemplation (chintan) to reach the hidden underlying meaning of sacred texts. On path of pure spirituality even a guru, spiritual master could do nothing much.
We primarily realized everything of our own indulging in contemplation (chintan). An external medium of any kind including a guru is never necessitated to reach the state of self realization.
If we are 100% truthful, also believed in God and world of souls atmans then we can successfully demolish our ego in totality. Doing so would help us hear dictates of Lord Krishna coming from within our heart. Allegorically, metaphorically Lord Krishna is soul atman existing in our heart.
As detailed by Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita at any given moment of life only one can prevail, our ego or voice of Lord Krishna within. When six years of age my ego was zero! I could distinctly hear promptings of Lord Krishna coming from within my heart all the time. Guided by Lord Krishna all the time I finally cleared my spiritual journey reaching state of self realization in the wee hours of third of August 1993 37 years of age.
I minutely observed that most human beings world over failed to hear promptings of Lord Krishna coming from within our heart. I could say with conviction that all these human beings had a bloated ego and were just not prepared to let it go, abandon it in totality. All thought they would lose their individual identity if they demolished their ego even a little bit.
Such human beings can never be a successful traveler of spiritual path to reach stage of self realization. Self realization is meant for travelers who can duplicate path taken by Swami Vivekananda, one possessing absolute willpower. Swami Vivekananda was one person who never ever looked back. He always burnt all bridges behind when in pursuit of god.
If we seriously desire scaling all heights of self realization then we must duplicate path taken by either Swami Vivekananda or Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa or Maharshi Ramana.
Going to a self realization retreat would never serve any purpose ever. Self realization is achieved in isolation, in complete silence never in a community gathering. Self realization is best practiced at home where we can intermittently establish a one-to-one contract with God Almighty. We must never underestimate power of silence, something ardently practiced by Maharshi Ramana.
