Difference between God and Religion

Religion is primarily defined as a set of beliefs and practices jointly exercised by a group of people. Religion can also be summed up as belief in a supernatural power we called God.

Looking at things religiously both the definitions seem okay. But what about God, creator of entire cosmos as defined in spirituality particularly Indian spiritual scriptures, sacred texts.

God as detailed in spirituality is the only truth of life and is one and only one called Brahman. In fact every single living being has a little content of God Almighty existing within in miniscule form as spirit, consciousness… soul atman!

As detailed in Bhagavad Gita we are primarily a cosmic spiritual traveler that manifested human form to remove dross impurities within. Human life is just a medium for soul atman within to work out its karma. Our consciousness existing in heart is the real master and controller of human body.

Spirituality believes that every single human being had the inbuilt power to undertake spiritual journey and reach cosmic end of life, God Almighty himself. Mahavira, Gautama Buddha even Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed did exactly that. They all became man gods in their lifetime.

Religion, religious practices (rituals) never promote one towards God whereas spirituality lands a human being in laps of God Almighty, Brahman in Hinduism.

In yesteryears when human brain had not yet evolved much; praying to God, worshipping God was a daily routine. But now when human brain has evolved to the extent that it could invoke first words of God, Vedas (Hinduism revelations) accomplished Sages and Rishis finally realized that there was more to life than visible. And hence the promotion of spirituality!

Indulging in spirituality as detailed in Bhagavad Gita any human being world over belonging to any religion faith or belief can reach God in one’s lifetime. Though a distinct possibility but for one possessing willpower exhibited by Swami Vivekananda it becomes a reality.

Indulging in religious practices one never reaches God ever.

Spirituality is the reason why human beings exist on mother earth. As no spirit, consciousness within could purify of its own, it needs a medium a body to work out its karma, remove dross impurities within. Indulging in spirituality human beings finally reached state of enlightenment.

The moment an enlightened one left mortal frame, one attains moksha salvation, liberates self from cycle of birth and death forever. The liberated soul atman can venture to any part of cosmos at will. The circle of life for a soul atman finally ends forever.

Religion primarily is meant for keeping the flock of human beings bonded together, nothing more.
