Why is the Bhagavad Gita important to Hindus

The teachings of Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita give meaning to human life. Furthermore, following teachings of Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita human beings reached god, realized self.

There is nothing more pure than teachings of Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita making it number one scripture in the entire world. For this very reason oaths in all courts of India were taken on Bhagavad Gita.

Scriptures like Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads (independent spiritual treatises) even Vedas gave Hinduism, the erstwhile Bharatvarsha its rightful place in the spiritual world. In absence of teachings of Bhagavad Gita none in world could ever gain enlightenment.

Teachings of Bhagavad Gita form summum bonum of spirituality.

Philosophically, allegorically the story of Bhagavad Gita conveys to mankind there was more to life than visible. Bhagavad Gita conveys that in every human being existed a Krishna, a soul atman realizing which human beings reached state of enlightenment.

Furthermore, Bhagavad Gita shows the path how to indulge in spirituality to realize self, realize god. Bhagavad Gita deals with the spiritual aspect of Hinduism only. Bhagavad Gita had nothing to do with religious practices (rituals). It contains pure jnana wisdom necessary to undertake spiritual journey successfully.

As the essence of Hinduism is reaching God, highest reverence is accorded to teachings of Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita. Even though teachings of spirituality in Upanishads (independent spiritual treatises) were equally important but Bhagavad Gita is one single scripture following which any human being world over belonging to any religion faith or belief can indulge in teachings of Bhagavad Gita to gain enlightenment in ones lifetime.

No other scripture or sacred text was necessitated to reach God in one’s lifetime.

,
The original text of Bhagavad Gita containing 700 shlokas verses in Sanskrit along with English transliteration is available for mere $1 from Gita press, Gorakhpur India but there were no takers. As nothing in Bhagavad Gita can be understood literally and demands our indulgence in contemplation (chintan), most people preferred the easier path of religious practices (rituals) knowing well that religious practices never led anyone towards god.

The meaningless indulgence in rituals is feigning ignorance in matters spiritual. Why worship a Krishna externally when the real Krishna existed in our heart as our soul atman.

The best part of Indian spirituality is, with passage of time nothing in Bhagavad Gita diluted. Whatever is contained in Bhagavad Gita will exist and also be applicable until the end of time when mother earth disintegrates, the time for Pralaya (dissolution of entire cosmos).

The teachings contained in Bhagavad Gita were universal in nature applicable to entire mankind.

If Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharshi Ramana by pursuing spirituality in Bhagavad Gita can reach God, why not others.

Bhagavad Gita advocates that all religious practices world over must be stopped in entirety and people must start looking inwards. It is the inner journey towards our soul atman that mattered.
