In the journey of spirituality it is not only Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa but every single seeker on reaching a particular spiritual level saw God in all. Seeing God in all or seeing the atman of every man and woman meant the same.
All atmans were part of Paramatma, the greater whole! If an individual piece of puzzle is an independent atman, the completed puzzle Parmatman. If an individual grain of sand is an independent atman, the whole mound Parmatman, God Almighty Brahman.
Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa is that seeker who in his lifetime succeeded in reaching god.
When a spiritual traveler devoid of ego reaches a particular spiritual level, one truly saw atman of every man and woman. For a spiritual traveler like Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa the whole world becomes one large family. One finally connects to an individual on atman to atman basis.
When Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa saw God in all, connected to all human beings as an atman, the community around him could not digest this absolute fact of spiritual life.
Once Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa ran after a dog that had lifted some chapatis and run away! Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa pursued this dog with a spoon full of butter in hand. And what did Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa say to the dog running away, oh God, do not run away with dry chapatis. Accept the butter so that dry chapatis do not choke your throat.
Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa was not seeing a dog but God in a dog.
There is a very valid reason why God inverted becomes a dog.
