Even the best of Indian scholars faced to understand ABC of spirituality contained in Bhagavad Gita, what to say of scholars in West! Furthermore, spirituality as understood in West is distinct from true spirituality followed in India.
The spirituality as detailed in Bhagavad Gita is the only true spirituality that leads mankind towards God. It is Bhagavad Gita that tells us we are primarily a spirit, a cosmic traveler that manifested human form to cleanse self of dross impurities within.
We are primarily a consciousness, soul atman existing in our heart.
In Hinduism hundreds of ascetics, serious seekers indulged in spirituality contained in Bhagavad Gita to reach God in their lifetime. Whereas in the West only Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed attempted to reach state of enlightenment! This is where disparity lies in path of spirituality practiced in West compared to that in India.
Indian spirituality as detailed in Bhagavad Gita says, every single human being on mother earth had a spark of divinity within to become a Mahavira, Gautama Buddha even Jesus Christ or Prophet Mohammed in our lifetime. But none in West believed this absolute fact of life. All people in West kept praying to Jesus Christ and also Prophet Mohammed.
Trying to become one is the essence of spirituality. Swami Vivekananda followed in the footsteps of his spiritual master Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and could have easily gained enlightenment in his lifetime but he refused to do so. When Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa admonished Swami Vivekananda why he had come to him if the goal of his life is not reaching God, Swami Vivekananda politely replied he only wanted to affirm presence of God.
On path of pure spirituality we need willpower and determination of Swami Vivekananda to reach God in our lifetime. Does this mean one needs becoming a Swami Vivekananda in real life to reach state of enlightenment yes, spiritual facts say so.
Summarizing it all, it is beyond perception of western scholars to indulge in Bhagavad Gita. One needs mastering art of contemplation to realize everything contained in Bhagavad Gita. Just by simple reading one can understand nothing in Bhagavad Gita.
If western scholars can do that, they would take no time in reaching state of Jesus Christ or Prophet Mohammed.
