Only people with spiritual inclinations should read Bhagavad Gita. Half-heartedly nothing can be understood in Bhagavad Gita. Most indulged in teachings of Bhagavad Gita in their spare time.
Bhagavad Gita is a spiritual treatise detailing intricacies of spiritual journey. How we can demolish ego, how to overpower five senses and mind, how we can practice nishkama karma yoga, how to indulge in practice of absolute celibacy for a minimum period of 12 years in continuation and last but not the least how we can awaken kundalini shakti by harnessing sexual energy.
There is nothing in Bhagavad Gita that relates to day-to-day activities of modern world. For a religious practitioner indulging in rituals, teachings contained in Bhagavad Gita offer no solace.
If our goal of life is reaching God in present lifetime only then we must read Bhagavad Gita. Why make a half-hearted attempt only to become a patient of serious depression! I know many who started in pursuit of God very seriously but not gaining progress as anticipated even after gap of 15 years, most quit midway, some becoming patients of serious depression.
Why indulge in something that did not belong to this world! Spiritual travel is an inner journey towards our inner self located in our heart. This journey is covered only by practicing contemplation (chintan) all the time. The value of contemplation in the journey of spirituality must be assessed carefully. Unless we are prepared to indulge in contemplation most of time, we could not travel spiritual path successfully.
We must always go by our inner voice coming from within our heart. We must never get guided by what people said or did. In my search for truth I became an introvert of the highest order. This continued for a time span exceeding 30 years. The inner journey towards our soul atman demands pin drop silence within. Unless we become an introvert, we just could not practice spirituality satisfactorily. The art of contemplation is mastered only as an introvert, never extrovert.
