Self realization in Hinduism and enlightenment in English meant the same. Both stages meant human beings reaching God in their lifetime. Reaching God means in absence of dross impurities within, the soul atman existing in our heart reaches state of absolute purity. This pure soul atman finally liberates itself from cycle of birth and death.
Realization of self means regaining our lost pure prime pristine primordial form, becoming our true self again in the cosmic journey of life. Enlightenment means awakening kundalini shakti to its full potential human beings succeed activation of their brain to full 100%. The moment this happens Sahasra Pushpa (thousand petalled Lotus) existing in our brain behind forehead opens fully. One immediately becomes an enlightened one, a bodhi, a Jina… a Mahavira forever. One finally negates karma to zero forever.
Enlightenment means the spirit, consciousness existing in us regaining its original pure form. For a purified soul atman the cosmic journey of life finally ends.
Both enlightenment and self-realization demand human beings indulging in spirituality as detailed in Bhagavad Gita to reach cosmic end of life.
