Krishna helps one only when we helped ourselves. In Bhagavad Gita Lord Krishna clearly says the whole cosmic system is directly governed by laws of karma, as we sow so shall we reap nothing more or less.
If we seriously desire help of Lord Krishna then we need taking inner journey towards consciousness, soul atman existing in heart. Indulging in contemplation (chintan), spirituality as detailed in Bhagavad Gita we can reach our true inner self.
When we were truthful 100% and also succeeded demolishing our ego in totality, we could clearly hear dictates of Lord Krishna coming from within our heart. Guided by voice of Lord Krishna coming from within we can complete our spiritual journey, become a pure soul atman forever.
Krishna from within is all the time willing to help us but dominated by a bloated ego most human beings world over did not hear dictates of Lord Krishna coming from within.
To reach Lord Krishna within, to reach state of enlightenment our indulgence in spirituality detailed in Bhagavad Gita is necessitated. There was no other shortcut method to reach God in our lifetime.
